Young excitement seekers are driving the poker fever

A year ago Zapera did an extensive study of the gambling market. At that time less than two out of ten played poker online. Now, eight out of ten associate online games with poker according to our new extensive study of games online.

There is an explanation. In the beginning of 2006 there were no Swedish games on the market for online games, which back then was dominated by different foreign companies. Now Swedish Games is undisputedly highest on the list when it comes to top of mind. The gamblers think that it is safe to play on Swedish Games, because it is Swedish, well known and reliable. Swedish Games’ entry has doubled the market.

It is the youngest between 18 and 24 years old who are the most poker crazy. Of the young Internet players who most often play the same game, 72% of them play poker. Around half of them do it because it is a fun and exciting game. One quarter prefers poker because it requires cleverness, while they think that winning in other games relies more on luck.

When we asked which game they associated the most with online games women and men agree. It is poker. After that comes nothing, nothing and then Bingo. However, the playing habits differ between the genders. The women play mostly lotto online, with bingo, scratch cards and poker shares the second place, while the men most often play poker, followed by sporting bets, lotto and horse races. The women are also more careful and gamble with lower amounts of money than men.

There is a quick transition from traditional games to new and more exciting ones. It is first of all very young people who have become hooked on poker. The game has become fashionable and it is the older, 55-64 years old, who gamble on horse races, which very few young people do.

Are the players negative towards the Swedish gamble monopoly? According to Zapera’s survey the answer is no. In total, more people want to keep the monopoly than getting rid of it. The women are more positive towards keeping the monopoly than the men, who have a more scattered attitude towards the question.

This is just a little sample of the contents in Zapera’s survey on online games. Contact us if you would like to see the complete survey.
