Danes: "Attack could happen here"
Tuesday, 9 December 2003
Two thirds of the Danes believe that
an attack like the one on the Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs,
Anna Lindh, could also happen in their country.
Even so, only 27% think Danish
ministers should be protected by body guards and less than one in
five thinks the attack on Anna Lindh should have any consequences
for ordinary people's access to politicians.
The results, which come from a poll
conducted by Zapera on the 11th of September 2003, were first
published on Danmarks Radio's evening news (TV-Avisen) that same day.
"The results show that Danes place the
openness of the society above the threat of attacks on politicians,"
says Mads Stenbjerre, Research Director at Zapera.
"Even on a very emotional day like
today, where everybody's sentiments are with our Swedish neighbors,
the Danes express a definitive preference for an open society."
